A friend of mine (well, a friend of my sister's really) has left our fair shores to teach in Singapore. She's been there all of one day now and has started a blog to tell the rest of us how awesome the place is.
Meanwhile, I'm in Broombridge train station and admiring the razor-wire protecting a nearby building site from the 'natives'... Hmmm...

The well known Kübler-Ross model describes the five stages through which someone dealing with grief traverses, in order: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance. Thanks to That 70's Show (warning: irritating sound on homepage; I wish web developers would stop doing that!) we now have a shorter, simpler model: Anger and Drinking.
Thanks to Red Foreman for contributing to the science of psychology in such an insightful manner :-)

Perhaps I'm crazy, in these 'harsh economic times', but I'm in the final throes of spending a whole lot of a certain bank's money on a house. For years I have remained quietly envious of the high esteem in which the LEWD group is held - and so I go to swell its ranks ;-)
With any luck I'll have some kind of keys tomorrow, and this weekend shall be devoted to figuring out what maintenance work needs to be done prior to actually moving in. I am suitably prepared for having no money at all for a long time - but look forward to calling my first LEWD PotD (Pint of the Day.) I shall be drinking tapwater, but relishing the fact that I'm finally on the property ladder sitting on a depreciating asset. (In my day, we used to call these liabilities - I see no stone has been left unturned by the marketspeak monkeys...) - actually, make mine a vodka and absinthe, with a whiskey chaser...

I'm sitting on the 18:40 train in Connolly. Unremarkable, you say, except the 18:40 should have left Connolly over 15 minutes ago. I'll post the laughable 90th percentile on-time statistics that Irish Rail have completely made up and posted in their station tomorrow. If you're going to provide an apallingly bad service, at least have the decency not to lie about it - just say you suck.
